Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Slinger Parks, Recreation & Forestry! We offer a variety of volunteer opportunities, and even if you don’t see something that fits below, feel free to reach out. If you’re interested in volunteering, please submit the online form at the bottom of this page, and we will get in touch with you as soon as possible. We recommend contacting us in advance of your desired start date, as many of our programs and events are scheduled months in advance, and we’d love to get everything organized ahead of time.
Park Events
Volunteers are an essential part of our annual events at local parks, helping to create memorable experiences for the community. Opportunities include:
- Event Set-Up and Breakdown: Assist with setting up event booths, stages, tents, tables, and signage. Help with the tear-down and cleanup after events.
- Crowd Control and Direction: Volunteers can help direct guests, ensuring they are in the right place at the right time. This may include directing people to parking, helping them find activity locations, and answering questions.
- Assisting with Registration: Help attendees’ sign up for activities, collect entry fees, and distribute event materials like programs and schedules.
- Logistics Support: Support the logistics team by managing event supplies, helping vendors, or moving equipment between activity stations.
Sports Program Support
If you’re passionate about sports and want to help others engage in healthy activities, there are several ways you can contribute:
- Coaching: Volunteer as a coach for youth or adult teams, guiding participants in developing skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Refereeing/Umpiring: If you're familiar with the rules of specific sports, volunteers can help officiate games for various leagues, ensuring fair play and enforcing rules.
- Concession Stand Assistance: Help run food and beverage stands during sporting events, providing refreshments and snacks for athletes and spectators.
- Activity Assistants: Help sports coordinators with organizing drills, maintaining equipment, or assisting players during practices and games. You can also work with children during recreational programs to ensure safety and engagement.
Senior Programs
Support our senior community by volunteering for programs that enhance their well-being and social engagement:
- Activity Assistance: Help run physical activity classes, such as yoga or walking groups, ensuring seniors are safe and engaged.
- Social Events: Volunteer to organize and facilitate events like potlucks, bingo, dances, or educational workshops.
Youth Activity Programs
There are numerous opportunities to work with children and young adults, fostering their development in a variety of ways:
- Creative Arts: Assist with arts and crafts programs or assist kids with hands-on projects.
- Adventure and Outdoor Activities: Lead or assist nature programs, and other outdoor recreational activities that teach teamwork, leadership, and environmental awareness.
